(Gillette, Wyo.) The Wyoming Department of Education is inviting community members to participate in a survey to assist in determining professional development needs for educators in Wyoming. The survey addresses a requirement in the Every Student Succeeds Act to provide data and ongoing consultation with stake holders.  The main purpose of the survey is to find out how to best utilize the federal funds available for professional development through the U.S. Department of Education.

“We want to get input from teachers and school districts on what they feel is the best professional development for the state to offer to them, and we also want to hear from community members, parents, and business/industry on where they would like to see teachers improve,” said Wyoming Department of Education Communications Director Kari Eakins. “We want to get feedback from such a wide variety because we know that quality teachers have a huge impact, beyond just their classroom.”

This survey, which will be conducted every three years, will be available to take online until Feb. 28, 2018. There will also be annual evaluation surveys to determine the effectiveness of the professional development provided and its direct effect on student achievement.

Wyoming received $9,666,572 in Title II funds this year, the majority of which were passed on to local school districts.  The survey represents the list of allowable uses of the funds under Title II.
