Kindell Santistevan, a friend of the owner, helps make signs Tuesday for the grand opening of J’z Frozen Yogurt & More
(Gillette, Wyo.) Jennie Zmiewski is no stranger to the the world of sweet treats. Since October 2006, she’s run Jennie Zee’s Handmade Gourmet, an online outlet for Zmiewski’s all-natural, gluten-free confections.
The business ships to locations all over the the nation, and it had done so well, Zmiewski said she decided to expand. J’z Frozen Yogurt & More officially opened this week.
Her grand-opening event on Tuesday drew a few dozen people to the store.
Customers may choose from several different flavors of yogurt, which are then topped however they want. The yogurt bar also features an assortment of other treats, including caramels, licorice chews, and key lime crunches. She also has scones.
“I’m known for my scones,” she said.
The store has a relaxing atmosphere with brightly colored seating, and Zmiewski is hoping to attract families and business people holding meetings or taking breaks from their busy day.
Zmiewski’s career in candy began in 2005 when she entered her fudge in a state fair contest. She used her own special recipe, which won a blue ribbon. People who tasted it encouraged her to go into business, she said. From there, her online business was born.
She said the benefit of frozen yogurt is that it has fewer calories than soft serve, with only a third of the sugar found in ice cream, soft serve, and custard. It also contains probiotics, which she said is a digestive aid.
“It’s truly a treat, and it’s better for you,” she said.
This fall, she will begin offering gourmet hot cocoa, and some of her yogurt flavors will turn to seasonal ones. She’ll have pecan praline, pumpkin spice, and apple pie through November. And in December, she’ll have peppermint candy and egg nog.
J’z Frozen Yogurt & More is located at 1103 E. Boxelder Road., Suite H, in the former location of Cherry Berry.
Zmiewski offers some of the popular treats Cherry Berry had, including the caramel apples and chocolate-dipped strawberries.
She recommends people call ahead for orders of the candied strawberries to (307) 363-4343.
