Small Wyoming Community to Host Calcutta Performance

(Gillette, Wyo.) Haven’t had enough rodeo this year? A small Wyoming community feels the same way. The town of Recluse is gearing up to host a fun filled night of team roping and Calcutta at their rodeo arena at 6:00 p.m. Saturday night, August 26, courtesy of the Recluse Community Trust.

This is the first time the community of Recluse has ever hosted an event like this, says Cate Loetscher, secretary of the Recluse Community Trust.

The cost to participate in the competition will be five dollars to enter as an individual or 10 dollars to enter as a team. During the Calcutta performance, spectators will have the opportunity to bet on which team they think will win, and all bets will be pooled together in one big pot.

The performance is a fundraiser to benefit the Recluse Community Hall.

Loetscher is unsure of how many teams will be competing, but she advised that the winning team will receive a percentage of the entire Calcutta pot to the winning team.

Though she is unsure of the specific percentage payout, Loetscher expressed her belief that it could be in the upwards of 30 percent.

Should the event draw a significant amount of competitors and spectators, the community of Recluse is willing to make this an annual event.

The town of Recluse is a small community located 35 miles north of Gillette off of Highway 14-16 and there will be signs placed along the road to guide people to the performance.

So if you have not or cannot get enough of summer rodeo performances, be sure to head on out to Recluse this weekend to enjoy the team roping, Calcutta, and food.
