(Gillette, Wyo.) After officially accepting the resignation of the previous Cam-Plex General Manager, Paul Foster, at last night’s Joint Powers Public Land Board meeting, the board is looking to restructure some of the newly vacant positions at the Cam-Plex.
Foster’s resignation and the termination of Mark Smith as the marketing director were lucky to have come after the conclusion of the National Finals High School Rodeo a couple weeks ago, says Mary Silvernell, chairman of the Joint Powers Public Land Board.
“It’s never a good time when you lose that kind of position,” Silvernell said.
For the past few weeks, the board has been looking into the whole organizational structure for the positions that need to be filled and are doing their best to “look forward ahead to the future.”
“We need to look outside of the box and bring some new things in,” Silvernell said.
According to Silvernell, the position that Foster held for some time is not going to be the same position that it was once the board has finalized its restructuring process.
“So we have to rewrite a description and send it over to them [county HR],” she stated. The county will be the ones to determine the appropriate salary for such a position.
A committee made up of a few of the board members to include Duane Evenson, Don Hamm, and chairman Silvernell will be meeting on Monday morning to hopefully finalize the job description to get the position ready for posting next week, Silvernell said. The board hopes to expedite that process to get the general manager position filled with a qualified candidate in a timely manner.
But despite losing two of their management positions in such a short amount of time, the Cam-Plex is still doing well.
“The staff has really stepped up,” Silvernell said. “They’re all dedicated to making sure that complex is successful.”
