(Gillette, Wyo.) Aunt Lou, who are you? That question is soon to be answered as the Campbell County Rockpile Museum hosts historic interpreter, Joyce Jefferson, who will impersonate former slave Lucretia Marchbanks.
The event marks the first of three performances in the 2017 Summer Series conducted by the Campbell County Rockpile Museum. The series seeks to introduce a little culture and history to the residents of Gillette, WY featuring relatively unheard of individuals who are important to history of their community. The “Who is Aunt Lou” performance will tell the true story of Lucretia “Aunt Lou” Marchbanks, a former slave who settled near Sawpit Gulch, SD and became a hotel owner/operator in 1883.
“Who is Aunt Lou?” will be free to the public and is set to begin at 10:00 am tomorrow, June 10th and will end at 11:00 am the same day. Gillette residents are encouraged to attend and ask questions, where “Aunt Lou” will be ready and willing to provide answers.
