Menards Shoplifting Investigation Ends In Arrest

(Gillette, Wyo.) According to the Gillette Police Department, officers responded to a report of a theft at Menards around 9:00 p.m. Wednesday night. Employees told officers that a 22-year-old man allegedly attempted to conceal a pair of 14-inch bolt cutters in his pants before fleeing the store.

The staff of Menards followed the man on foot towards an apartment complex on Country Club Road. Officers arrived and located the young Rozet resident. The suspect claimed to be experiencing difficulty breathing and was transported to Campbell County Health for medical evaluation.

Lieutenant Chuck Deaton reported Menards employees suspected the involvement of three other individuals, including two 25-year-old males, and a 20-year-old male. The 20-year-old claimed that he was standing outside the store waiting for the other men to finish shopping. The two 25-year-old men stated that they were unaware that the 22-year-old was shoplifting.

The Campbell County Sheriff’s Office K9 assisted in locating the bolt cutters, valued at $9.99, in a field between Menards and Bomgaars.

Video surveillance allegedly shows the male suspect trying to conceal the bolt cutters in his pants. Officers cited all four male “shoppers” for trespassing. The 22-year-old was also issued a citation for shoplifting and was arrested on a warrant for probation revocation.
